How It Started
Freek was a car enthusiast long before he and Mattijs launched the company together in 2014.
Before getting into the world of tolling, he ran a couple of vehicle history websites—the kind where you enter a licence plate number and find out if the car’s been in an accident or still has outstanding finance.
As it turns out, that expertise came in handy. The German environmental sticker needs very specific vehicle data, and Freek already had the systems and technical know-how to retrieve it accurately.
His first drive through the Czech Republic actually dates back to 2009, years before Czechvignette.cz was even an idea.

Operations, compliance, partner relationships—it all ends up on his desk.
Freek’s team starts every morning the same way: checking official toll authority websites, digging through government pages for changes or announcements, and scanning the national and regional news across Europe. If something looks unclear or inconsistent, Freek dives in to investigate for himself. Toll regulations can change quietly, and he’d much rather catch an update early than hear it from a frustrated customer later.
Freek also manages our relationships with payment providers like Mollie and Revolut, and works directly with tolling authorities to make sure we have the most up-to-date information on our website. He is particularly focused on the Czech Republic, Italy, France, and Slovakia.
Thanks to him, our thirty-plus platforms always run smoothly. That’s his job—and he does it well!
10,000+ Kilometres on the Road
Freek doesn’t just talk about road trips—he has actually done them.
He’s driven through more than 10 countries testing the toll systems along the way. By car, by caravan, and even by motorbike, Freek chooses his transport to match the journey. He’s ridden all the way up to Austria and travelled through Scandinavia. His most frequent route is the Netherlands to Italy, either via Austria or Switzerland, usually with a stop in Slovenia to see a friend.
Freek documents all the practical details himself, but most of the time, his family comes along for the ride.
Still, not every trip goes perfectly. One that stands out involved a failed toll badge at an Italian toll booth. Caravan attached, queue building behind him, three children in the back, and a line of impatient drivers watching as he carefully reversed out.
Not his favourite travel memory.
But experiences like that are exactly why we do what we do. No one enjoys toll booth stress, especially on holiday.
